Kukeri festival in Breznik, Bulgaria

Брезник е малко градче в Западна България. Не знам как изглежда в обикновени делнични дни, но тази събота беше приказно, многолюдно, пъстро и огласено от кукерски чанове. А грохотът на кукерски чанове е нещо, което щом си чул веднъж, не можеш да забравиш никога… По-долу включвам малка част от това, което видях (и преживях) на “Сурва Брезник 2014″…

*On Saturday I had the chance to visit the annual Kukeri festival in Breznik, a small town in Western Bulgaria. “Kukeri” is a traditional Bulgarian ritual dating back to pagan times. Men, women and children dress up in ritual masks and costumes to chase evil spirits away. The scarier the masks, the better. Everyone wears big and heavy bells around their waist. Believe me, once you’ve heard the chime of those bells, you will never forget it…
